I LOVED this project. I learned so much from it. I redesigned the App 3 times (I probably shouldn't admit that).
The first iteration was straight from my imagination, I thought it looked cool but it really didn't work for this application.
For the final version I really followed convention, and while that's not ground breaking, it taught me so much about design.
If you have any questions about this project I would be more than happy to talk!
I really enjoyed thinking about the grid for this design. I played around with different options that offered lots of flexibility but ultimately I came back to 4 columns x 8px. It felt like a loss initially but I was happy I spent that time trying other options. Lesson learned.
I used 13 cols with a 344px offset.
The name "Banksie" was an obvious joke but nobody else in the group came up with it, maybe thats a bad thing :).
I kept the font simple (Bitter for headings, Open Sans for everything else) and the colours pretty uniform because while it is a fun project, it's still a bank and so it must instill a sense of security, confidence etc.
I personally find a lot of modern UI designs to be over complicated. It's taken as fact that the most common usage of bank apps is to check balances, transactions, top ups and transfers... so I displayed that front and centre.
The Nav leaves some space to the right on dropdown as a 'you-are-here' indocator.
Again, I kept this really simple. I displayed default reports front and centre as the user has just clicked on Reports in the Nav.
I included some usage behaviour, some customer service CTAs as well as the eports themselves.
I got some great feedback for this project and some solid takeaways that I will employ in my next project.
